While Howard Dean seems bent on inferring that Christians in the aggregate are a group of 'nut bars', the Hillary is being accused by some Democrats of selling out because of her position shift on abortion interpreted by some as necessary to placate, and thus increase her appeal to, those same Christians in anticipation of a run for the Presidency in 2008.
Senator Clinton's statement in question was when she called abortion a "sad, even tragic choice."
In my opinion, rather than being simply a politically motivated shift in her position on the subject, overlooked entirely seems to be proportions of the hypocrisy it manifests that should flat out disqualify her for the Presidency.
If, notwithstanding her protestation of remorse for the unborn, Hillary remains steadfast on the pro-choice position that a fetus is not a human life, would it not be appropriate to ask her why then is its disposal either tragic or sad? On the other hand, if its disposal is tragic and sad, can it not be only because a fetus is a human life? And, if indeed it is a human life, then should not its disposal be seen as something going far beyond simply being either just tragic or sad? In that case, why would it not be murder? And, if it is that, how can the Senator maintain a pro-choice position and hope to enlist the support of Christians who would agree it is that by extending to them expressions of sympathy for their resulting emotions? Isn't is far more likely that the only thing she is likely to impress them with is the gigantic proportions of her hypocrisy.
